Game Three Canucks and Anaheim

The series is now 2-1 for Anaheim but not for a lack of spectacular play on the part of the Vancouver Canucks. The first two games were in Anaheim and the games were split due to the great play of one Jeff Cowan. Soring two goals, one in each of the two games, Jeff was responsible for the overtime win in game two. Here are a few words from Mr. Cowan on that goal as reported on ESPN.

ESPN.com - NHL - Working overtime: Cowan, Canucks even series: "Cowan scored from a sharp angle with a shot that found a crack of daylight between goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere's right skate and the post after Anaheim's Rob Niedermayer lost the puck behind the net to Vancouver center Trevor Linden.
'Trevor's a clutch player, and he's proved it again and again in these situations,' Cowan said. 'It's exciting to be on the ice with him at that time of the game. He got the puck to me at the right time and I just got it away quick."

The Canucks lost game three in Vancouver after a hard fought battle. The problem was an inability to capitalize on eight power play advantages, two of which were 5 on 3. Tonight the Canucks will need to bring their specialty lines up to speed and put pucks on the net. They will also need to create more traffic in front of Giguere something the Ducks seem to be very good at in our end. Due to an unspecified illness the Brabarian will not be able to play tonight so the other stars of our team will need to pick up the slack.

Dallas Stars' scorers need to start scoring in series versus Vancouver Canucks

Dallas Stars' scorers need to start scoring in series versus Vancouver Canucks: "Vancouver's offence was dragging for the first 30-plus minutes of that game, so coach Alain Vigneault changed up his top line, pairing Nasland with the Sedin twins. He also hooked up Jan Bulis and Jannik Hansen; that combination produced the tying goal in the third period, when the Canucks fired off 15 shots to only four by Dallas. "

I think Jaime Aron has hit the nail on the head. The Canucks were slow for the first two periods but brought a lot of intensity to the third period and set things right. This is the way this team needs to play if they wish to go to the Stanley Cup finals. I want to see a lean, mean hungry machine of a team out there every game. Hitting hard, fighting in the corners and out skating the other team. The third period was one of the best periods of play I have seen from the Canucks in this series so far and this is the type of play that will give them a chance at the cup.

Canucks 1 Stars 0

7 periods, what a game. Louie was just getting his playoff legs for the first three periods but he shut down the Stars for the last four periods and stopped 72 of 76 shots. 76 shots in one game; what a way to start your first ever NHL Stanley Cup play off series.

This looks to be one very exciting series and I can not wait to see the next game on Friday.
